Mumbai records year’s first ‘Good’ air quality day on Sunday | Details inside

Mumbai: Mumbai recorded its first good quality of air this year on Monday. As per the data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), India’s financial capital recorded the AQI of 45 on the weekend. This was the best AQI recorded in the city since October 27 last year, when it was too at 45.

While March this year recorded no ‘Poor’ air quality days, as many as 29 days of the month recorded at the ‘Satisfactory’ level. As compared to March, January recorded 8 satisfactory days, while February recorded 7.

Most areas in Mumbai recorded AQI under 100

Earlier on Sunday, Most areas in Mumbai recorded AQI under 100, which was the best this year so far. Of the 24 active AQI monitoring stations across the city, 14 stations recorded AQI in the ‘Good’ category, while 10 others recorded the Air Quality Index in the ‘Satisfactory’ category. According to officials, areas like Kandivli, Malad and Borivli recorded best AQI on Sundays. Among the other areas with good or satisfactory AQIs are Sewri and Sion.

Apart from them, areas which normally have bad AQI’s like BKC and Bandra East too recorded AQI ‘Good’ category. So far, March recorded the best AQI since 2020, data available with the CPCB said, even as the lockdown due to COVID which started in mid-March of the year 2020.

However, the improvement in AQI is not similar across the city with several localities continuing to remain under poor AQI. As per Free Press Journal, Mulund is recording an AQI of 109. Similarly, Bhandup recorded 104, Kannamwar Nagar recorded 117, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar recorded 107, Savitribai Phule Nagar 105, Chandivali 102, Saki Naka 110, and Mirashi Nagar at 117.
