Under the ‘One District-One Product’ (ODOP) scheme in Madhya Pradesh, local products are being linked to the market, branding and export. With this model, artisans, farmers and entrepreneurs are getting new employment and income opportunities.

Bhopal. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, ‘One District-One Product’ (ODOP) scheme has been developed as an effective economic model in Madhya Pradesh. The scheme is no longer limited to identifying local products but linking them to markets, exports and employment. This model will be presented in the cooperation conference organized in Varanasi on March 31, where the innovations of Uttar Pradesh will also be understood.

Economic empowerment of local producers and artisans through ODOP

Under the ODOP scheme, special products of each district have been identified and linked to production, processing, value addition, branding, packaging and marketing. In Madhya Pradesh, it has been developed as a complete value chain model, providing sustainable income and employment opportunities to artisans, farmers and small entrepreneurs.

Specialty of every district got market and identity

Special products of different districts of the state have been organized and linked to the market under ODOP. Like- Guava of Sheopur, Mustard of Morena-Bhind, Sandstone of Gwalior, Chanderi Handloom of Ashoknagar, Namkeen of Ratlam, Batik Print of Ujjain, Tiger Print of Dhar, Kadaknath of Jhabua, Zari-Zardozi of Burhanpur, Basmati of Sehore, Teak of Betul, Chinnaur Rice of Balaghat, Kodo-Kutki of Mandla-Dindori, Satna Tomato and Shahdol turmeric. This shows that the economic potential of every region of the state is being increased in a planned manner.

MP’s ODOP model gets silver award at national level

Madhya Pradesh’s ODOP model has also been recognized at the national level. In the year 2024, this scheme received the Silver Award, which is the result of the hard work of the artisans, farmers and entrepreneurs of the state and the strong ecosystem of the government.

Integrated system related to export, skill development and market

ODOP in the state has been linked to increasing exports, skill development and entrepreneurship. The products are being made available to the market through workshops, exhibitions and digital platforms. The competitiveness of these products is being increased through branding, packaging, GI tagging and e-commerce, due to which they are making their mark in the global market.

New opportunities and possibilities of cooperation in MP-UP conference

Ministers, officials and policy makers of both the states will participate in the Madhya Pradesh-Uttar Pradesh Cooperation Conference. In this, better implementation and future strategy of ODOP will be discussed. Madhya Pradesh will share its experiences on how this scheme can be made successful as an employment and export based model.

‘Local to Global’ vision will get a boost

This conference will open new markets for ODOP products, give impetus to exports and provide a big platform to artisans and entrepreneurs. Collaboration and exchange of best practices between the two states will further strengthen the scheme at the national level.

ODOP implemented in more than 50 districts, getting widespread benefits

Special products of more than 50 districts in Madhya Pradesh have been added under ODOP. These include many products like banana of Barwani, chilli of Khargone, potato of Indore, agricultural equipment of Sagar, garlic of Mandsaur, coriander of Neemuch, orange of Agar Malwa-Rajgarh-Chhindwara, ginger of Tikamgarh-Niwari, bamboo of Dewas-Harda, toor dal of Narsinghpur, custard apple of Seoni, carpet of Sidhi, tomato of Satna and turmeric of Shahdol.

Due to integrated support from production to branding, packaging and marketing, this scheme is providing sustainable income and export opportunities to farmers, artisans and entrepreneurs, thereby giving impetus to balanced and inclusive development in the state.
