New Delhi: A multi-storey building in Delhi’s Chand Bagh area caught fire late Sunday night. Several people, including women and children living in the building were trapped in the fire and chaos ensued in the north east Delhi area.
Woman jumps from burning building, locals rescue 3 others
Several people were seen jumping out of the building as fire engulfed the stairs and the corridors. In a video which is now going viral on the internet, 3 women and 1 child are seen trapped on the second floor of the building. They try to jump off the burning building, to save themselves.
As seen in the video, first a woman jumps off from the building. She falls straight on the road below and it seems that she was badly injured. However as soon as she falls, locals of the area gather at the spot.
The locals of the area then came together to rescue the other people trapped in the balcony of the building. They are seen instructing the other people trapped in the building to wait. They then bring a big bedsheet and spread it right below the balcony, where the 2 other women and the child are trapped.
Several people were seen holding the bedsheet in a manner that it forms a cushion for the victims to jump. The locals then instruct the women and the child to jump into the bedsheet carefully.
It was reported that all 3 were rescued safely by the locals. Later on, firefighters controlled the blaze.
Recent blazes in Delhi
The fire in the multistoried building in Chand Bagh was not the only tragedy that occurred in the city on Sunday. In fact the national capital saw multiple fires on Sunday. Parked 2-wheelers in a house in Bhajanpura area caught fire on Sunday. A total of 4 people sustained injuries in this fire.
The fire in Bhajanpura started at 2:50 am on the intervening night of Saturday-Sunday. It was brought under control by firefighters by 3:50 am.
Another fire was reported from a factory in the Bawana Industrial area. The incident happened in Sector 2. Another fire was reported from Hard Rock Cafe in central Delhi’s Connaught place.
