Vijay Varma is back to shining in the OTT space. The actor, known for Mirzapur, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, Lust Stories 2 and more, will be next seen in Matka King.
Created and directed by Nagraj Popatrao Manjule, it also stars , Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav, Bhupendra Jadawat, and Gulshan Grover in lead roles. The Prime Original series is being touted as an “intense drama set in the fast-changing Bombay of the 1960s.” It is set to premiere next month. Here’s all you need to know about the web series.

Matka King is a fictional story created and written by Abhay Koranne.
The story follows a smart cotton trader who invents a new gambling game called Matka, turning a rich people’s hobby into a source of hope for common people. Soon, it becomes a nationwide phenomenon.
The show also features Vineet Kumar Singh, Bharat Jadhav, Girish Kulkarni, Jamie Lever, Kishor Kadam, Cyrus Sahukar, Arpita Sethia, Sambhaji Tangade, Ishtiyak Khan, Sanjivv Jotangia, and Simran Ashwini in supporting roles.
Matka King will start streaming on Prime Video on April 17. It will release in India and across 240 countries and territories worldwide.

In the show, Vijay plays Brij Bhatti, a smart and ambitious cotton trader, who tries to earn respect in 1960s Bombay. Set in busy markets and crowded neighbourhoods, his big idea soon grows beyond his control, pulling in people from all walks of life. As dreams get bigger and risks increase, the story becomes an engaging tale of ambition, power, and finding one’s place.
Talking about the show, co-producer Siddharth Roy Kapur said, “What drew us to Matka King was the scale and uniqueness of the world it is set in, and the story of an individual navigating ambition, identity, and the pursuit of respect in a rapidly evolving society. It is a narrative rooted in a specific time and place, yet universally relatable in its exploration of human aspirations and choices.”

He said that Abhay Koranne brought a unique creative vision and authenticity to the story. He further mentioned that the series had been crafted with great depth and nuance. Kapur also expressed excitement to present Matka King to audiences from April 17.
