Delhi man robbed of Rs 7 lakh by dating app gang, 5 arrested

New Delhi: The Delhi Police have busted a gang in Kalkaji, which lured men through a dating app and then looted them. The activities of the gang came to light when a 30-year-old was robbed of Rs 7 lakh by the gang members.

How Delhi man was trapped

According to a report in NDTV, the victim Anuroop Narula said that he met a woman named Sherry on a dating app, ‘3F’. Both of them chatted for a while and then the woman invited him for a meeting at Delhi’s Nehru Place.

On Wednesday when Narula reached Nehru Place 3 men accompanying the woman, forcibly took him in a car. He was assaulted by the men and forced to transfer money from his bank accounts. The men forced him to transfer a total of Rs 7 lakh using UPI, ATM and credit cards. The man revealed that the men threatened to kill him and one of them even attempted to strangle him, if he failed to fulfil their demands for money.

The accused later dropped off Narula to Nehru Place and threatened to kill him if he approached the police.

Accused arrested after Narula files complaint

Narula however decided to report the matter, despite the threat by the gang. Based on his complaint, the police registered an FIR under Sections 309(4), 309(6), 140(3), and 3(5) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita).

Investigations began under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ratan Lal and Inspector RS Dagar. The team analysed CCTV footage, phone records of the victim and also his bank account details, to ascertain the digital transactions.

Following the analysis of the CCTV from the area, the police zeroed in on Rishabh Raghav, a cab driver. He was arrested along with the vehicle used in the crime. Based on his confession, the police arrested the other 4 accused as well.

Those arrested have been identified as Navojit, 30, a gym trainer and owner, 28-year-old Sanjay, who works as a veterinary assistant, Sahil and Harleen Kaur alias ‘Jenny’.

Sanjay and Navjot are residents of Panchsheel Vihar, while Risabh resides in Chhatarpur.

All the accused together ran a gang, to trap unsuspecting men into meeting women through dating apps. The woman, Harleen Kaur, used to pose under different aliases and lure men into meeting her at different places in the city. As soon as the target arrived at the place, the gang used to pounce on the unsuspecting person and rob them of their money and valuables, said police.

The Delhi police recovered 2 cars used in the crime and 5 mobile phones. The investigations are currently on and the police hope to recover the money looted from Narula. For this they are analysing the transactions made by the victim and also the account details of the accused persons.
