Astros Overcome Angels in Thrilling 11-9 Comeback Victory

HOUSTON (AP) – The Houston Astros staged a remarkable comeback against the Los Angeles Angels, winning 11-9 on Saturday night, fueled by Carlos Correa and Isaac Paredes, who each drove in two runs.

After trailing 6-4, the Astros scored eight runs in the sixth inning, tying the game with a single from Correa and taking the lead with a hit from Christian Walker.

Astros’ Dominant Sixth Inning

The Astros capitalized on Angels reliever Walbert Ureña, scoring six runs on four hits during the sixth inning. This marked the highest number of runs scored by Houston in that inning since they achieved ten against the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 4.

Notably, Yainer Diaz contributed a two-run single, while Jake Meyers hit a two-run double off the right field wall, extending Houston’s lead to 11-6.

Angels’ Struggles on the Mound

The Angels’ bullpen, which had previously registered 7 2/3 scoreless innings to start the season, faltered dramatically, allowing eight runs between Ureña and Joey Lucchesi in just the sixth inning.

Angels starter Reid Detmers, making his first regular-season start since September 27, 2024, struggled as well, yielding three runs on six hits while striking out nine in 4 2/3 innings.

Key Performances and Upcoming Matchup

Kai-Wei Teng made his debut for the Astros, pitching 2 1/3 innings without allowing any runs, securing his first win. Cristian Javier, however, gave up six runs on four hits in his 4 2/3 innings.

Looking ahead, the Astros will feature RHP Tatsuya Imai in his highly anticipated MLB debut against Angels RHP Jack Kochanowicz as the four-game series concludes on Sunday.
