There is a temple of Marhi Mata amidst the forests near New Railway Colony in Bilaspur city of Chhattisgarh. Local people consider it a miraculous temple. It is believed that if a childless couple comes here and takes the blessings of the Goddess, then their wish is fulfilled and soon the cries of the child start echoing in their house. With this belief, there is a continuous flow of devotees here. Here the childless couple makes a wish on a tree present in the temple premises and their wishes are fulfilled.

Marhi Mata is also called Shmashanavasini (dweller in the crematorium), because here special worship is also done for the accomplishment of Tantra-Mantra. It is believed that just by seeing Mother Goddess, the effect of even the biggest tantric experiments gets eliminated and one gets relief from diseases also. Childless couples come here for special puja and after fulfillment of their vow, donate and perform puja as per their devotion. There is also an old tree in the temple complex, which is called the “Tree of Vocation”. People tie red threads on this tree and make their wishes.

There are many stone sculptures of different forms of Mother Goddess in the temple complex. A Shivalinga is also installed here along with the idols of Kali, Durga and Saraswati. Charan Paduka i.e. footprints are also present in the temple. Moreover, the idol of the goddess in the main sanctum of the temple is adorned with a variety of weapons and arms. During Navratri days, devotees throng Marhi Mata Temple to seek blessings of the Mother Goddess.

According to the local people, the history of this temple dates back to 1901 and the idol of Mata installed here is Swayambhu (manifested itself). It is said that this idol of Mother Goddess had come out by tearing the earth. According to the legend, a common man found this idol half buried near the railway station. Later, Late Sadanand Achari, a retired Railway employee, built a temple dedicated to the Mother here.
