This airport is ready for operation after getting the aerodrome license in March 2026 and inauguration of Phase-1 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is being considered a big step towards making Uttar Pradesh a global aviation hub. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s clear thinking, efficient leadership and regular review have played an important role in the success of this project.
Jewar Airport Project started in 2017: Beginning of a big vision
The foundation of this ambitious project was laid in the year 2017. After site clearance in July 2017 and NOC from the Home Ministry in October, the way was cleared for building an international airport in Jewar. Subsequently, Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) was formed in 2018, which provided a strong framework to the project. In the year 2020, Zurich Airport International AG was selected as the concessionaire and an agreement was signed with them.
2021-2026: Journey from financial closure to airport license
After financial closure and master plan approval in August 2021, the ‘appointed date’ was announced in October 2021, completely clearing the way for the construction work. Construction work began in March 2022 with Tata Projects as the EPC contractor.
All major works between 2022 to 2024 were completed on time, indicating better project management. Successful calibration flight took place in October 2025 and aerodrome license was obtained in March 2026. With this the airport was completely ready for operation.
Role of CM Yogi Adityanath: Active leadership at every stage
Active participation of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in this mega project was seen at every level. From land acquisition to construction, NOC and coordination between departments, he provided constant review and guidance. He planned to develop this airport not just as a transportation facility but also as a major center for industrial, logistics and investment.
