PM Modi holds huge roadshow in Varanasi as massive crowd throngs streets with chants

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a roadshow in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi, which was attended by thousands of people. Notably, he is also scheduled to host Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, who is visiting India from September 9 to 16.

The Mauritius PM arrived in Varanasi on September 9. He received a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour upon his arrival as Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel received him. PM Modi will meet him at around 11:30 AM in Varanasi.

Later, PM Modi will go to Dehradun for an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas in Uttarakhand at 4:15 PM. Later, at 5:00 PM, he will chair a high-level meeting. Thousands of people thronged the streets to catch a glimpse of PM Modi during the roadshow. It resembled a festive affair with people chanting “Modi Modi”, blowing conch shells as music played on loudspeakers. The noise made by the crowd that gathered to watch PM Modi was deafening. The city took on a grand look as PM Modi’s convoy made its way through the huge crowd.

 

A crucial meeting with the Mauritian PM

PM Modi’s meeting with Ramgoolam in the historic city of Varanasi shows the cultural connection between the two nations that also have a spiritual bond. Over the years, they have shaped the special and unique relationship between the two nations. Notably, PM Modi visited Mauritius in March 2025, during which the two leaders strengthened the bilateral ties to an ‘Enhanced Strategic Partnership’.
