For the residents of Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh, today is going to add a new chapter in the aviation sector. The moment that was awaited for a long time has finally arrived. Today, on March 28, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate the first phase of Noida International Airport (Jewar Airport), the country’s largest greenfield aviation hub being built in Gautam Buddha Nagar. This will be the third airport in this entire region after IGI, Delhi and Hindon in Ghaziabad. Its direct benefit will be to those lakhs of common passengers who often face heavy crowd and jam at Delhi Airport. This airport has been identified as DXN (IATA code) and VIND (ICAO code).
Travel of crores of passengers will become easier
In the initial phase it Airport Will be fully capable of carrying the load of 1.2 crore passengers annually (12 MMPA). Under the first phase, flights will be operated from one runway from where about 150 flights will take-off and land every day. However, the vision of this project is very big. In the coming time, it will be expanded in a total of four different phases. According to the masterplan, its capacity will be gradually increased to 7 crore passengers and by the year 2050, this airport will be able to easily handle the movement of more than 15 crore passengers.

World-class facilities will be available
Spread over a huge area of about 4,700 hectares, this airport will take time till 2040-50 to be completely developed. The estimated cost of this entire project is Rs 29,000 crore. Nearly Rs 10,000 crore has been invested to get the first phase off the ground alone, out of which Rs 4,588 crore has been spent only on land acquisition. In the first phase, a 3900 meter long modern runway, state-of-the-art Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower and Terminal-1 have been constructed. For the convenience of passengers, the latest baggage handling system and 10 aerobridges have been installed inside Terminal-1. CISF will be responsible for security here. This runway is also suitable for wide-body aircraft.

As the work progresses in the coming phases, the number of runways will increase from one to six and the number of terminals will increase to four. Later, a large cargo terminal, aircraft maintenance (MRO) facility and logistics hub will also be built here. This airport is based on PPP model, which will be operated by Zurich Airport AG for the next 40 years. The target has been set to make it an eco-friendly airport with ‘net-zero emissions’.
Traffic tension is over
Often the biggest concern of passengers is to reach the airport from home. Special care has been taken in the design of Jewar Airport. A grand ‘Ground Transport Center’ has been built here on 20 acres. This airport is directly connected to Yamuna Expressway, National Highway-44 (NH-44) and Jewar-Faridabad Expressway.
