Miranda Bowers and her husband John, who live in Pensacola, Florida, have left their three-bedroom house and started living in a small hotel room.
The couple’s life changed in 2023 when John suffered a serious injury to his right hand in an accident at work. The family’s main source of income stopped and it became impossible to pay the $2,300 (about Rs 2 lakh) rent every month. After this difficulty, Miranda and John decided to stay in the hotel.
Now they spend only $ 307 (about Rs 28,000) a week for living. The special thing is that it includes all the bills like electricity, water, internet, parking and garbage service. Miranda says, ‘The biggest advantage of staying in a hotel is that you do not have to arrange thousands of dollars for rent or security deposit.’ With this change, they are able to save around $1,000 (approximately Rs 94,000) every month. In this way, their savings in a year amount to around Rs 11 lakh.
Even though the hotel room is small, he has provided all the facilities he needs there. To avoid eating outside, Miranda cooks food in the small kitchen in the room. They have separated the living area and the bedroom by installing a partition in the room, which makes one feel like a home.
This couple believes that it is better to live a simple life than running after big houses and drowning in debt. Miranda and John dream of using the money they save from living in a hotel to buy an acre of land and build a small house there. This couple is proving that with hard work and proper planning, even difficulties can be converted into opportunities.
