Illicit affair, Rs 2 lakh dispute led to Karnataka ex-MLA’s son Raju Bolashetti murder: Police

New Delhi: A badly burnt body was found by police in Karnataka’s Dharwad district on March 24. Following the arrest of two people, the police on Friday confirmed that the charred body was of Raju Bolashetti, the son of former MLA Baburao Bolashetti, The Indian Express reported.

The accused have reportedly been identified as Munera Sherif Dillunaika, 32, Mrutyunjay Devappa Kambar, 26, and a minor, all residents of Bidaragaddi in Bailhongal taluk.

It was on Wednesday that the incident came to light when a charred body was found inside a burnt car in a field near a railway track at Rampur village in Dharwad taluk. Police suspected foul play after examining the condition of the body. A thorough probe was carried out.

What does the initial probe indicate

Primary probe suggests that the man was killed somewhere else and not where his body was recovered. His body, along with the vehicle, was later set ablaze in a bid to wipe out all evidence, the police said. The probing team combined technical inputs and on-ground evidence to track down the accused within hours. The two suspects have been arrested.

As the police investigated further, it was revealed that the Raju’s killing was a premeditated murder. It was a revenge killing, which was linked to an illicit relationship, police pointed out.

Police said Raju had an affair with the accused woman and had given her over Rs 2 lakh during their relationship. He added that financial dealings between the two eventually led to quarrels and confrontations.

What happened on the day of murder

On the fateful day, the woman was reportedly called by Raju to a farmland. The woman, along with her aide and the minor, killed him there, the cops said. The accused then carried Raju’s body in the car to a forested area near Rampur.

A police officer reportedly said that the accused put Raju’s body in the back seat of the car, doused petrol and set the vehicle ablaze to ensure that no trace of evidence was left.

After setting the vehicle afire, they escaped from there. However, the police nabbed the accused later. Police are now investigating whether more people were involved in hatching the murder plot and executed it.
