WhatsApp introduces dedicated Meta AI tab for iOS users: Here’s what’s new

New Delhi: WhatsApp is expanding its push into artificial intelligence by introducing a dedicated Meta AI tab for iOS users. The new feature will position a central hub where all AI-powered tools and conversations will be accessible to users at a single location. It is also deployed in a similar rollout on the Android platform, and it seeks to standardise the experience across systems and simplify AI functionality by making it more discoverable and accessible.

It is already being offered to select iOS beta testers using TestFlight, with a broader rollout expected soon. This action will enable WhatsApp to make AI a central aspect of their interface as opposed to an additional feature.

Dedicated Meta AI tab replaces communities shortcut

The new tab proposes an actual point of entry of Meta AI to the bottom navigation bar of the app. WhatsApp has replaced the Communities tab that was in its former location just to create space in order to accommodate it. Nonetheless, communities may still be accessed by the users via the Chats section via filters and shortcuts.

Such a transition indicates that WhatsApp moves towards the focus on AI interactions. With a central placement of Meta AI, the application invites the users to come back to its expanding array of intelligent applications more often.

All AI tools in one place

Within the Meta AI tab, users can communicate with a chatbot which responds to queries, clarifies concepts and gives general assistance in daily chores. The interface will also be able to imply prompts so that the users can start and learn more about various capabilities.

Image generation using AI is also another important feature. The user is able to make images based on basic text inputs and even bring them to life to use in social media or personal projects. These applications seek to increase the level of creativity and leave everything inside the app.

Voice and memory controls

The customisation is also provided in the new tab. The user can select various AI voices, and it makes the interaction more personal. The memory setting also enables the Meta AI to recall user preferences and the previous inputs.

Notably, users are under control. They are able to watch, update or delete the stored memories anytime. This will provide transparency and enhance the relevance of AI responses in the long run.

Chat history organised into threads

Another feature that is also in testing at WhatsApp arranges threads of meta AI conferences. The threads can also be changed into different names, and so it is easy to follow various subjects or unfinished activities. This style is like that of messaging systems such as ChatGPT.

Meta AI can also maintain context between chats even with different threads, although this requires shared memory (when enabled). This enables the user to go on with projects that they are doing without the need to repeat information.

The Meta AI tab is also being launched to some iOS users who use the newest beta version. The addition of the feature to WhatsApp in the stable App Store version can also be seen by some of its users as the company rolls out testing.

This update places WhatsApp evidently in a more AI-focused direction. The platform is laying the groundwork for further application of AI in daily messaging by means of centralisation and making AI more accessible.
