New Delhi: As global tensions continue to simmer in the Middle East, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to chair a high-stakes virtual meeting with Chief Ministers this Friday evening. The goal of the meeting is to fortify India’s domestic stability and ensure a unified response to the potential economic and logistical fallout of the overseas conflict.
The Prime Minister’s interaction, to be conducted via video conferencing, is designed to align the Union government and state leadership under a singular “Team India” framework. The agenda focuses on seamless coordination and rapid information-sharing to mitigate risks posed by evolving global uncertainties.
The key sectors under discussion include safeguarding fuel supplies and managing price volatility, ensuring the flow of essential goods remains uninterrupted and assessing the readiness of state systems to handle potential ripples from the conflict.
Notably, the meeting will not be a full house of political leaders. Due to the Model Code of Conduct currently in place for upcoming assembly elections, Chief Ministers from West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry will not attend the virtual session.
To ensure these critical states are not left out of the loop, the Cabinet Secretariat will convene a separate, non-political briefing for their Chief Secretaries. This ensures that administrative preparedness remains high in election-bound regions without violating electoral protocols.
This outreach follows a busy week for the Centre. On Wednesday, Union ministers held an all-party meeting in Parliament to brief opposition leaders on India’s strategic stance and the potential impact on the national economy.
As the Middle East conflict threatens to disrupt global trade routes and energy markets, the PM Modi-led administration is prioritising a proactive “prevention over cure” strategy, ensuring that both the Centre and the States are synchronised before any significant domestic impact is felt.
