New Delhi: Volkswagen is set to reveal the updated version of its Taigun SUV in India on April 9, 2026. This will be a mid-cycle facelift, so don’t expect a completely new car. Instead, the company is likely focusing on small design updates, a few new features, and some mechanical tweaks.
Recent spy shots of the facelifted model give a clearer idea of what’s coming. The test cars seen were left-hand-drive versions, but they still hint at the design direction for India. The changes appear noticeable but not drastic, with the aim of making the SUV look more modern and slightly premium.
Design and interior updates
Current Volkswagen Taigun
The front of the Taigun facelift could take inspiration from Volkswagen’s global models, especially with a sharper look. It may get slimmer LED headlights connected by a light strip, along with a glowing Volkswagen badge. There could also be a revised grille, along with updated front and rear bumpers. At the back, expect small changes to the LED tail-lamps.
Inside, the cabin is likely to get new materials and a fresh colour theme. Feature-wise, the setup may be similar to what we’ve seen on its Skoda sibling. This means a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a larger 10.25-inch digital driver display could be offered. Other expected additions include ventilated and powered front seats and possibly a panoramic sunroof. There may also be improvements to the air conditioning system for better cooling.
Engine and gearbox expectations
The facelift is not expected to bring major changes to the engine lineup. The SUV will likely continue with the same 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 115hp and 178Nm, and the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine making 150hp and 250Nm.
However, one key change could be in the gearbox. The current 6-speed automatic paired with the 1.0-litre engine might be replaced with a new 8-speed unit. The 1.5-litre engine is expected to continue with the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Prices are likely to go up slightly compared to the current model. Once launched, the updated Taigun will continue to compete with other mid-size SUVs in the Indian market.
