Karuppu has given Tamil cinema and Suriya many, many reasons to celebrate. The film has now earned Rs 300 crore worldwide and has become Suriya’s first film to cross that milestone.
The directorial is one of Tamil cinema’s biggest hits in the recent times, with the entire star cast earning praises for their performances. Kollywood needed this mega-hit, when other industries like Telugu and Malayalam are producing big blockbusters every year. Suriya too was looking for success at the box office for quite some time.
Karuppu crosses Rs 300 crore
In a post shared on social media, makers Dream Warrior Pictures announced that the film has finally touched the golden Rs 300 crore mark. Calling it a ‘divine blockbuster,’ they also released a new poster to mark the major milestone. The post mentioned the magic trio behind the success of the movie as the caption read, “A feast by @RJ_Balaji and team. A @SaiAbhyankkar Musical. A @dop_gkvishnu Visuals.”

Rajinikanth reviews Karuppu
Amid Karuppu’s massive success, RJ Balaji got a special compliment from superstar Rajinikanth that made him esctatic. During a recent interaction with The Hollywood Reporter India, RJ Balaji revealed that Rajinikanth personally called him after watching Karuppu. Sharing details about the memorable conversation, the filmmaker-actor said the superstar appreciated the film and congratulated the team wholeheartedly. Recalling Rajinikanth’s reaction, he added, “He said, ‘Balaji, super, super, super, you have achieved; you have achieved. What a big hit! We will meet again soon.'” RJ Balaji admitted that receiving appreciation from Rajinikanth made the success of Karuppu even more special for him.

Karuppu, which hit theatres on May 14, 2026, was reportedly made on an estimated budget of Rs 130 crore. The fantasy action entertainer quickly surpassed Singam II (2013) to become the Suriya’s highest-grossing film. The movie also achieved a major milestone by becoming the first Tamil film in nine months to cross the Rs 100 crore mark in Tamil Nadu. The last film to achieve this feat was Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, which released in August last year.

Directed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu stars Trisha Krishnan as the female lead alongside Indrans, Anagha Maya Ravi, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada, Supreeth Reddy, Mansoor Ali Khan, George Maryan and Aadukalam Naren in pivotal roles. The story follows Saravanan, a lawyer believed to be the human avatar of deity Karuppusamy, as he fights a corrupt legal system to deliver justice.
