BCCI, the world’s richest cricket board, has once again been showered with lavish sums of money. Before the start of IPL 2026, BCCI’s treasury has increased further. More than a thousand crore rupees are going to come into BCCI’s account and the reason for this is the sale of two IPL teams. On March 24, two IPL teams Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore got new owners and both these teams were bought for historic amounts. BCCI has received a huge amount of money after the deal and sale of these two franchises.
How much money did BCCI get?
In IPL, if the owner of any team changes, then 5 percent fee has to be deposited in the BCCI board. According to this rule, RCB has been sold for Rs 16,660 crore. Its 5 percent is Rs 833 crore. Whereas Rajasthan Royals has been sold for approximately Rs 15 thousand crores and BCCI will get Rs 750 crores from this. Meaning BCCI has received Rs 1583 crore from the sale of these two teams.
RCB becomes the most expensive team
March 24 was a historic day for Indian cricket and IPL. Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore together have been sold for Rs 31000 crore. Royal Challengers Bangalore was sold for $1.78 billion and became the most expensive cricket team in history. Rajasthan Royals became the second most expensive team when it was sold for $1.63 billion.
Who is the new owner of RCB-Rajasthan?
The RCB franchise has been jointly purchased by Aditya Birla Group, American sports investor David Blitzer and American private equity firm Blackstone. Let us tell you that the former owner of RCB, United Spirits, had put the franchise on sale just a few months after winning the IPL 2025 title last year. Talking about Rajasthan Royals, Kal Somani’s group has bought this team for Rs 15 thousand crores. Let us tell you that this agreement will come into effect after IPL 2026 and Manoj Badle will remain the owner of the team till the end of the upcoming season.
