BSNL New ServiceNowadays, unknown calls coming on mobile often become a problem. Many people do not pick up the call out of fear or irritation, because they do not know who is in front of them. On the other hand, cases of spam calls and online fraud are also increasing rapidly.
To reduce this problem, government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited i.e. BSNL is working on a new technology. The company is preparing to launch CNAP (Caller Name Presentation) service soon. After the launch of this service, users will see the name of the caller when they receive a call, even if the number is not saved in their phone.

What is CNAP service and how does it work?
CNAP stands for Caller Name Presentation. This simply means that whenever a call comes, not only the number but also the name of the caller will appear on the screen. This feature is quite similar to the feature that is found in apps like Truecaller. But the way both work is different.
What is the difference between Truecaller and CNAP?
Third-party apps like Truecaller typically use crowdsourced data. That is, names are shown on the basis of data collected from users’ phonebooks. Sometimes due to this reason wrong name may also appear. Whereas in CNAP service, the name is taken from the official record given to the telecom company during KYC (Know Your Customer). This means that the same name will appear on the screen which was entered in the documents at the time of taking the SIM card. Therefore this service is considered more reliable.
Efforts to stop spam calls and online fraud
In recent times, cases of spam calls, fake bank calls and digital fraud have increased. In many cases, people have been duped of money by scaring them with new methods like “digital arrest”. Experts in the telecom sector believe that if the user can see the real name of the person while receiving a call, then in many such cases people can get a chance to be alert in advance. For this reason, preparations are being made to start services like CNAP.
What will be the benefit to the users
If Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s CNAP service is fully implemented, users can get several benefits:
- Calls coming from unknown numbers will be easily identified
- Can help protect against spam and fake calls
- You will get information about the caller even if the number is not saved in the phone.
This is being considered an important step in the telecom sector, which can make mobile calling more secure and transparent in the future.
