Fees increased for the fourth time in the last seven months
It is worth noting that Swiggy has increased the platform fees for the fourth time in the last seven months. The effect of this gradually increasing fees is now clearly visible. While earlier customers used to pay only delivery charges and GST, now platform fees are also becoming a major part of the bill.
Fees increased from Rs 2 to Rs 17
Platform fees on food delivery apps started at just Rs 2 in 2023. But with time this amount increased rapidly and now it is more than Rs 17. This amount may seem small to an ordinary customer, but when crores of orders are made daily, it becomes a big source of income for companies.
Big income is being made from crores of orders
According to estimates, around 43 lakh to 45 lakh orders are placed every day on food delivery platforms in the country. In such a situation, companies are earning around Rs 3,500 to 4,000 crore every year from platform fees alone. This is the reason why companies are gradually increasing this fee.
Why are fees increasing?
Market experts say that food delivery companies are no longer able to increase the commission they receive from restaurants. In such a situation, companies are earning additional income through platform fees directly from customers. People believe that such small increases may be seen in the future also. This means ordering food online may become more expensive in the future.
