Ranveer Singh To File Affidavit Seeking Unconditional Apology In Kantara Mimicry Row Amid Dhurandhar 2 Buzz

Ranveer Singh Kantara Mimicry Row: Ranveer Singh is currently riding high on success of Dhurandhar 2. On Tuesday, the Karnataka High Court heard a petition regarding the actor’s mimicry of the sacred Daiva scene from the blockbuster film Kantara.

In a significant move to resolve the conflict, Ranveer Singh’s legal team informed the court that the actor is prepared to file a formal affidavit offering an unconditional apology.

What Is Ranveer Singh’s Kantara Controversy?

The controversy dates back to November 2024, during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. Ranveer Singh had imitated the iconic sequence performed by Rishab Shetty, which is deeply rooted in the spiritual traditions of the Kannadiga community. The performance sparked immediate backlash, leading to an FIR being filed against the actor for hurting religious sentiments.

Although the High Court had previously granted Ranveer Singh interim relief from arrest, the prosecution recently argued that his previous apologies were insufficient. Advocate Prashanth Methal, argued that the gesture lacked sincerity. He suggested that the Instagram post might have been the work of a social media team rather than the actor himself, noting that the star had only posted an apology on Instagram and had not apologised orally.

In response to these objections, Ranveer Singh’s counsel emphasised that the actor is genuinely distressed by the misunderstanding. “The actor is genuinely hurt by the situation and will soon file a written apology before the court,” his counsel remarked. Furthermore, the legal team suggested a more personal approach, expressing the actor’s willingness to visit the Chamundi Temple in Mysore to apologise in person.

Rishab Shetty Praises Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2

Interestingly, while the legal battle continues, Kantara director and star Rishab Shetty has took to social media to praise Singh’s performance in Dhurandhar 2, stating that the film features top-notch performances by every single artist. However, regarding the mimicry, the Kantara actor has been clear about his boundaries in the past, saying, “The Daiva element is sensitive and sacred. Wherever I go, I request people not to perform it on stage or mock it.”

The Karnataka High Court has now listed the matter for April 10, by which time the formal affidavit is expected to be placed on record.
