American businessman Kal Somani and Flipkart owner, Walmart founder Rob Walton have together purchased the Rajasthan Royals franchise. This deal has been done for Rs 15,000 crore, which is a new record. This is the first time that an IPL team has been sold for more than US$1 billion.

Yesterday Somani, who has a business worth millions of crores in America, along with Rob Walton has bought this team. Somani entered the IPL in 2023 by purchasing a small stake in Rajasthan Royals. Now he has bought a major share of the team.
Times Group yesterday gave tough competition to Somani and Rob Walton in the franchise bid. Now Kal Somani Group and Rob Walton have 100 percent stake in Rajasthan Royals. Kal Somani of Indian origin is a big businessman of America. He has a keen interest in golf. He has also started Motor City Golf Club in collaboration with golf legend Tiger Woods. Now through IPL he is starting a new innings in cricket also.
The deal will be completed after IPL 2026
This entire deal will be completed till the end of IPL 2026 tournament. For now, the team will play under the existing franchise only. The legal process of the deal and transfer of money will be completed in the next 2 months. After IPL 2026, the ownership of the team will completely pass to the new owners.
