JLR appoints Balaje Rajan as Group Chief Strategy Officer

New Delhi: JLR has appointed Balaje Rajan as group chief strategy officer, effective from April 1st, 2026. He will be moving UK and reporting to the CEO of JLR. Currently, Rajan serves as the chief strategy officer and head of International Business at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM).

Along with his new role, he will continue to support strategic collaborations at Tata Motors as well.

Rajan’s new role comes with the light of Tata Motors looking to strengthen coordination between their India PV operations and JLR’s global business. He is expected to work on areas which include platform sharing, electrification strategy and technology alignment, especially as both brands widen their EV lineup.

How this move affects the Tata Motors Avinya EV range

The move also comes with Tata Motors developing its Avinya EV range, which is expected to use learning and select technologies from JLR. The brand has shifted towards a much more balanced approach, mixing in-house development and selectively using JLR’s EV technologies and learnings, instead of relying just on shared architecture.

Rajan comes from having shaped Tata Motors’ integrated ICE and EV strategy and its international business plans. His responsibilities include aligning platform direction, product strategy, and market expansion efforts. Before Tata Motors, he had worked with Tata Strategic Management Group, with focus on areas like EV strategy, battery ecosystem planning, go-to-markets, and passenger vehicle turnaround schemes for multiple group companies.
