Joshua Durksen wins Belgian Grand Prix F2 sprint after last-lap safety car battle

Joshua Durksen delivered a commanding performance at Spa-Francorchamps, seizing his second FIA Formula 2 victory of the 2026 season in the Belgian Grand PrixSprint Race.

The Paraguayan driver showcased nerves of steel, withstanding immense pressure in a dramatic last-lap restart triggered by a late safety car, and returned to the top step of the podium for the first time since his season-opening triumph in Melbourne.

Durksen’s composure was tested after John Bennett’s late-race spin brought out the safety car, bunching up the field and setting the stage for a one-lap sprint to the finish. Despite the mounting tension, Durksen maintained his lead to the chequered flag, sealing a memorable win at one of the most iconic circuits on the calendar.

Martinius Stenshorne mounted a determined challenge but was ultimately forced to settle for second, unable to overhaul Durksen in the closing stages. Dino Beganovic completed the podium, delivering a strong drive to secure third place and valuable  points.

Nikola Tsolov, who arrived at Spa on a winning streak, saw his run halted but managed to salvage a solid points haul in fourth. The Bulgarian’s consistent form kept him in the mix, but he was unable to extend his sequence of victories in the Belgian Ardennes.

There was disappointment for Gabriele Mini, who sits second in the championship standings, as his hopes were dashed by an early retirement. The setback could have significant ramifications in the title battle, with Mini losing ground to his rivals after failing to finish the sprint.

The results of the Spa Sprint Race remain provisional pending FIA confirmation. The outcome marks a significant moment in the 2026 FIA F2 season, with Durksen reasserting himself as a serious contender and the   picture shifting once again amidst the unpredictable drama of Formula 2  .
