In TV9’s Satta Sammelan, Indian all-rounder and T20 vice-captain Akshar Patel told how he became a cricketer. His aim was never to become a cricketer for Team India but an accident changed his life. Akshar told that grandmother’s death and father’s tears inspired him to get entry in Team India.
How did Akshar Patel become Team India’s cricketer?
Akshar Patel said, ‘I never thought that I would play for India, I just loved playing cricket. Whenever I used to go to play, grandmother used to think that I will appear on TV. She used to look for me in the blue jersey. Grandma always thought that I would come on TV, at that time I was playing in the district team. One day my grandmother was no more. No one told me that my grandmother was no more. After three days I came to know from my friends that my grandmother was no more. When I reached home, father cried a lot. He said that your grandmother wanted you to play for India in blue clothes. After that day I felt that I want to play for India. That day I promised that I would play for India and I got a chance to join Team India in 2014.
Akshar won 4 tournaments in the last 2 years
Akshar Patel has helped India win 4 tournaments in the last two years, which includes 2 T20 World Cups, one Champions Trophy and Asia Cup. Akshar Patel performed amazingly in all these tournaments. Akshar Patel became the player of the match in the semi-final match of T20 World Cup 2024. Against England, he took 3 wickets for 10 runs.
After this, in the 2025 Asia Cup, Akshar Patel took 2 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs against Pakistan in the final. He bowled 15 dot balls in the final against Pakistan. Akshar Patel consistently performed well in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy. In the tournament, he scored 109 runs at an average of 27, in which he also scored an important 42 runs against New Zealand.
