AWS Bahrain disrupted again after drone activity, cloud services hit

New Delhi: Amazon Web Services has once again taken a hit in the Middle East, with its Bahrain cloud region disrupted amid ongoing conflict in the region.

The company confirmed the issue to Reuters after reports of drone activity, marking the second such disruption in just a few weeks.

AWS Bahrain disruption linked to drone activity

Amazon said its Bahrain region has been “disrupted” following drone activity in the area, according to a Reuters report.

The company did not confirm whether its facility was directly hit or affected by nearby strikes. Still, it acknowledged the impact on operations and asked customers to shift workloads.

“As this situation evolves and, as we have advised before, we request those with workloads in the affected regions continue to migrate to other locations,” Amazon said.

AWS added that it is helping customers move their systems to other regions while recovery continues.

Second incident in weeks raises concerns

This is not the first time AWS infrastructure in the region has been affected. Earlier this month, facilities in Bahrain and the UAE faced power outages linked to military activity.

At that time, the company had flagged deeper damage. It said, “These strikes have caused structural damage, disrupted power delivery to our infrastructure, and in some cases required fire suppression activities that resulted in additional water damage.”

That earlier incident was significant. It marked one of the first known cases where military activity disrupted a major US tech company’s data centre.
