Sexual harassment allegations rock Tamil Nadu BJP: Women’s wing president complains to PM Modi

Chennai: Thanga Sobana, President of the BJP’s Chennai District Women’s Wing, has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi leveling serious allegations of sexual harassment against Karu. Nagarajan, the party’s State Vice President. In her complaint, she has chronicled a series of incidents of harassment she claims to have endured since 2018.

In her letter, Sobana stated that at ‘Kamalalayam’—the party headquarters—Karu. Nagarajan called her into a private area, grabbed her hand, and forcibly attempted to kiss her. She added that she slapped him and immediately walked out. She further alleged that in 2022, under the pretext of party work, he summoned her to a secluded location, made her sit inside a car, and sexually molested her. She described how he attempted to force himself upon her, telling her, “If you are compliant with me, I will treat you like a queen.”

Threats and intimidation

Sobana stated that Karu. Nagarajan threatened to end her entire political career and have her expelled from the party if she did not yield to his sexual demands. She also expressed her anguish that, despite lodging complaints regarding these incidents with former State President Annamalai and former State General Secretary (Organization) Kesava Vinayagam, no action has been taken thus far.

Alleged arrogant remark

Sobana claimed that Karu. Nagarajan arrogantly mocked her, boasting, “You can do nothing; I have rendered many services to those in the high command.” This remark has created a sensation within political circles.

As of now, no official explanation or response regarding these sexual harassment allegations has been issued by Karu. Nagarajan or his representatives.
