‘Film ko hate ka source mat banao’: Dhurandhar actor Naveen Kaushik reacts to Dhruv Rathee’s harsh criticism

Dhruv Rathee Dhurandhar 2 video: The ongoing debate around Dhurandhar: The Revenge has taken a new turn after actor Naveen Kaushik responded to sharp criticism from political commentator and YouTuber Dhruv Rathee. The controversy erupted after Rathee dismissed the film as “brain rot” and labelled it propaganda on social media.

Directed by Aditya Dhar and headlined by Ranveer Singh, the spy thriller released worldwide on March 19 and has already generated massive box office numbers. However, alongside commercial success, the film has also sparked intense political debate online.

What did Naveen Kaushik say about Dhruv Rathee’s Dhurandhar 2 video?

Naveen, who plays the character Donga in the franchise, addressed the controversy during a recent appearance on the Hindi Rush podcast. While acknowledging that discussions around politics in cinema are inevitable, he urged viewers not to turn the film into a platform for hate.

“I believe every aspect of life is connected to politics, whether it’s national politics or interpersonal dynamics. Even in relationships, there is always some level of politics. Politics exists in subtle ways too… any good film will reflect some form of politics or ideology,” Naveen said while discussing the backlash.

The actor further challenged critics to name a film that is completely free of ideological undertones.

“Sabke paas freedom of expression hai… aap bol sakte ho, main debate kar sakta hoon. Lekin film ko hate ka source mat banao, violence ka instigator mat banao. Film hai, film ke flow mein dekhiye. Agar kuch seekhne ko milta hai toh le jaiye… bas usko enjoy kijiye (Everyone has the right to express their opinion, but a film should not become a source of hate or violence. It’s a film, experience it as one. Take what you learn from it, and simply enjoy it),” he added.

Dhruv’s comments surfaced shortly after the sequel’s release. Taking to social media, he criticised the film’s political messaging and wrote, “I called Aditya Dhar a BJP propagandist 3 months ago. Now everyone will see it. It was subtle in the previous film, but he went so blatant this time in overconfidence. Remember how I said, well-made propaganda is more dangerous? Ab toh well-made bhi nahi raha (It’s not even well-made anymore.). Lol”.

The YouTuber also posted another message promoting an AI masterclass, adding a swipe at the film with the caption: “Rs 500 for a Propaganda Film or Rs 500 for your Future? Link is in bio!”
