Puneri Paltan regained the top position in the points table with eight points after beating UP Yoddhas 37-22, and Telugu Titans climbed to third spot after defeating U Mumba 45-31 at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Vizag on September 10, Wednesday.
Telugu Titans concluded their home Vizag leg with a thumping victory over U Mumba, 45-31. The hosts extended their winning run as they won three consecutive matches after losing the first two games. With this win, the Titans climbed up to third position in the points table with six points in five matches.
Bharat Hooda was the star for his side as he led the charge with 13 points and also got support from Chetan Sahu (6 points) and captain Vijay Malik (5 points). Hooda began the attack with a multi-point raid to charge an early all-out on Mumba. Vijay also supported Hooda after the all-out and extended the lead to 14-5 in the first phase of the match.
Hooda and Malik duo pushed all-out on Mumba in the 14th minute and took a 16-point lead at the end of the first half. Mumba were just trailing at every minute of the match, and Titans didn’t give a single opportunity to Mumba to get back in the contest.
The rampage continued in the second half as Mumba’s unforced errors consistently pushed them towards the third all-out of the match, and the hosts widened the lead to 20 points. In the last 10 minutes of the game, Mumba were just controlling the damage and outscored Titans to close out the match with just an eight-point deficit.
In the second match of the night, Puneri Paltan edged past UP Yoddhas to regain the top position in the points table. Paltan outscored Yoddhas 43-32 with the help of Super 10s from Aditya Shinde and Pankaj Mohite and a High 5 from Gaurav Khatri. Whereas Gagan Gowda again scored a Super 10 but didn’t get any support from other Yoddha raiders.
With this win, Paltan won four out of six matches so far in the tournament and rose to the top position in the points table, while Yoddhas fell to sixth position by losing two back-to-back matches. They have won two out of four matches so far in the season.
Paltan got an early lead of 7-3, but Yoddhas fought back and leveled the score. They also got a two-point lead, but Paltan’s raiders’ consecutive points forced an all-out on Yoddhas to stretch their lead to 21-16.
Paltan pushed another all-out on Yoddhas to extend their lead to 10 points. After that, the game was just cruising in favor of Paltan, and they closed out the game 37-22.
