World TB day: Can TB be completely cured? Why is it difficult to leave treatment midway?

TB disease still exists today and its cases occur every year. For the treatment of this disease, the government provides free medicine schemes and advanced treatment. But can this disease be completely cured? Let us know from the experts why people leave their treatment medicines and why they should not leave them.

Dr. Ajit Kumar in the Department of Medicine at GTB Hospital, Delhi explains that if TB If any patient takes medicines regularly for 6 to 9 months, TB can be completely cured. In some patients the course may last longer than this, but it is important that people complete the course. But in many cases this does not happen. A few weeks after the start of treatment, the patient’s symptoms and weakness start reducing. Due to this the patient feels that he has been cured. He thinks that there is no need to take medicines now. He leaves the medicine midway. This is where the biggest mistake is made.

Why should one not leave TB treatment midway?

Dr. Kumar says that many TB patients leave the course of medicines as soon as they get relief. This is the biggest mistake in the treatment of TB which is not allowing the efforts to completely control this disease to be successful. In people who leave the treatment midway, the bacteria are not completely eradicated. They become active again. In such a situation the disease does not come under control. The patient thinks he has recovered, but he remains infected and spreads the disease to others.

Dr. Kumar says that people are advised to complete the course of TB treatment for the number of months and take their medicines on time every day and also keep following the diet prescribed by the doctor. Do not be careless in case of TB.
