Marc Márquez struggles as Ducati faces fierce competition: can they reclaim their dominance?

Ducati Faces an Uphill Battle: Can They Overcome Aprilia’s Dominance?

In a shocking turn of events, Ducati’s reign of 88 consecutive podium finishes was abruptly halted at the Thailand Grand Prix, leaving fans and experts alike questioning the Italian manufacturer’s strategies.

The disappointment continued in Brazil, where the only glimmer of hope came from Fabio Di Giannantonio’s third-place finish, barely ahead of the iconic Marc Márquez, who ended up in fourth. Both riders found themselves significantly trailing the formidable Aprilia duo of Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martín, who have seemingly taken the lead in the MotoGP race.

Davide Tardozzi, the seasoned team manager of Ducati, spoke candidly about the current state of affairs at the paddock in Goiania. He expressed genuine admiration for Aprilia’s performance, acknowledging their significant progress since last season. “First of all, congratulations to Aprilia. They have worked exceptionally well since last year and have shown remarkable competitiveness,” Tardozzi stated, highlighting the impressive strides made by their rivals.

However, the questions surrounding Ducati’s capabilities are mounting. Tardozzi candidly pointed out the areas where they are lagging behind. “Gigi (Dall’Igna) has been tirelessly working since the winter to help us recover. It’s evident that Aprilia has done a fantastic job, and it won’t be easy to catch up,” he admitted, reflecting the urgency of the situation.

The recent races in Thailand and Brazil were marked by unique tire specifications, prompting speculation that the true test of Ducati’s prowess-and Márquez’s potential to defend his title-will unfold at the upcoming Austin circuit. “I believe Aprilia will continue to be competitive in Austin, but I’m confident Ducati will be closer. We are aware of our issues and are actively seeking solutions,” Tardozzi noted optimistically.

Yet, there’s an unsettling undercurrent as Tardozzi pointed out that Márquez is not performing at peak physical condition. “At this moment, we have a Marc who isn’t at 100 percent physically. However, this isn’t an excuse since the other Ducatis are also struggling. We can’t expect Marc’s talent to always bail us out,” he emphasized, shedding light on the ongoing shoulder issues that have plagued the Catalan rider since his injury in Indonesia last year.

The situation escalated further with Pecco Bagnaia’s unfortunate crash in the early laps, which left him unable to compete effectively. “This isn’t just bad luck; it’s a mistake stemming from the lack of confidence we’ve been able to provide him to race at his level. He himself admitted the problem originated from his qualifying error on Saturday,” Tardozzi explained, revealing the internal challenges faced by the team.

These past two races have proven to be a harsh reality check for Ducati, illuminating the fierce competition they now face. “We have learned a lot from these two difficult races. We are no longer alone; our adversaries have significantly improved, and we must now prove that Ducati can close the gap,” Tardozzi concluded, sending a clear message that the battle for supremacy is far from over.

As the MotoGP season unfolds, all eyes will be on Ducati to see if they can reclaim their former glory or if Aprilia will continue to set the pace in this thrilling  . The pressure is on, and the stakes have never been higher!
