A fierce fight broke out between the priests and devotees over a trivial matter in the famous Jyotiba temple in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. About 20 priests attacked two devotees. A priest even hit a devotee on the head with a coconut.
Kolhapur: A shameful incident has come to light from the famous Jyotiba temple in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, which is the center of faith for millions of people. A video of a fierce fight between priests and devotees in the temple is going viral. A minor altercation escalated so much that around 15 to 20 priests together beat up two devotees brutally.
Devotee attacked on head with coconut!
The priest attacked two devotees who had come from far away places for darshan. During this time a priest crossed the limits. He picked up the coconut kept for worship in his hand and hit it hard on the head of a devotee. This entire incident was captured in the CCTV installed there and people’s mobile cameras. Anyone’s heart will be shocked after watching the video. In this, the priests are seen surrounding the devotees and beating them with kicks and punches. People are angry after seeing such hooligan behavior of the priests who are supposed to serve God.

The video of this deadly fight that took place in the temple premises is now spreading like wildfire on social media. It is clearly visible in the video how the priests are running and beating the devotees and the police is trying to intervene. People are commenting, ‘We go to temples for peace of mind, but if such hooliganism happens there too, then whom should the devotees trust?’
Police took charge, the matter calmed down
Seeing the fight taking place, the police present at the spot immediately came into action. Policemen saved the devotees from the group of priests and brought the situation under control. A major accident was averted due to timely intervention of the police. The injured devotees were immediately taken for treatment, although no further information was available about their condition.

Why did this ruckus start?
What was the reason for such a terrible fight is not clear yet. The police is investigating whether the fight took place over standing in the darshan queue, over dakshina or over some other issue. Whether the devotees argued with the priests or the priests instigated them first, this will be known only after investigation. At present, some priests are being interrogated in connection with this incident. This incident has tarnished the reputation of Jyotiba temple and devotees are demanding strict action against the guilty priests.
