Investment in equity mutual fund schemes declined to Rs 33,430 crore in August, which is 22 percent less than in July. According to data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amphie), a net investment of Rs 42,702 crore came to the Equity Mutual Fund Schemes during July, but in August it was reduced to Rs 33,430 crore. SIP investment did not change

Akhil Chaturvedi, Executive Director and Chief Business Officer of Motilal Oswal Asset Management Company, said that the decrease in NFO is the main reason behind the decline of about Rs 9,000 crore compared to July. The remaining flow remains stable and healthy. He said that the investment in mutual fund schemes through systematic investment scheme (SIP) remained stable at around Rs 27,000 crore in August, which is less than expected. He said that however, Indian investors are continuing investing in equity even amid global uncertainties and selling of foreign portfolio investors (FPIs), which is positive for the market.

In the categories of mutual funds, Flexi Cap Funds received the highest investment of Rs 7,679 crore during August. An investment of Rs 5,330 crore in midcap fund, Rs 4,993 crore in smallcap fund, Rs 3,893 crore in field -wise/content fund and Rs 2,835 crore in largecap fund. On the other hand, withdrawal of Rs 7,980 crore was observed in debt-based fund schemes. Overall, a total investment of Rs 52,443 crore was made in the mutual fund industry during the month of August, which is much lower as compared to Rs 1.8 lakh crore in July. By the end of August, the management-adopted assets (AUM) of the industry declined to Rs 75.2 lakh crore, which was Rs 75.36 lakh crore in the end of July.
