Madurai: A mysterious courier received by a couple in Madurai’s Thabal Thanthi Nagar has been revealed to contain semi-nude photographs of the woman along with obscene captions, triggering a police investigation that has now led to the arrest of a relative. The parcel arrived on March 26, instantly demolishing the peace and tranquility of their home.
The incident
A 37-year-old married woman resides in Thabal Thanthi Nagar and works alongside her husband at a private firm. When her husband received and opened the courier parcel, he was left utterly shaken by its contents. The package contained semi-nude photographs of his wife, apparently taken secretly while she was changing her clothes. Additionally, the parcel contained slanderous and obscene captions written with the specific intent of tarnishing the woman’s reputation. The obscene notes attempted to falsely implicate her in an illicit relationship with a relative who works as an auto-rickshaw driver.
Investigation and arrest
Upon seeing the contents, both the husband and wife were left paralyzed with shock. The incident inflicted severe mental anguish and caused significant domestic turmoil for the couple. The woman immediately lodged a formal complaint with the Madurai police.
Acting on the complaint, the police launched an intensive investigation, scrutinizing the woman’s family background and questioning her relatives. The investigation revealed that a pre-existing family feud existed between the victim and her cousins—her aunt’s daughters. Exploiting this animosity, they hatched a plot to drive a wedge between the couple.
Shocking revelation
The investigation uncovered that the husband of one of these cousins had secretly collected intimate photographs of the victim and mailed them in a parcel to her husband. Acting with malicious intent to exact revenge upon a woman within his own extended family, the police arrested the individual responsible and remanded him to judicial custody.
