The ongoing tribute week in Gorakshpeeth will conclude on Thursday, September 11. On this occasion, a tribute meeting will be held on the death anniversary of Rashtrasant Mahant Avedyanath. Many saints including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be present in this program.
Mahant Avedyanath’s contribution in Ram temple movement
Mahant Avidyanath ji gave a decisive direction to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement. In the nineties, the movement under his leadership took a wide form and united the saints, leaders and the general public. Today, the Shri Ram temple is being constructed in Ayodhya is the result of their resolve and effort.
Made social harmony the purpose of life
Mahant Awidyanath kept the goal of his life to promote equality and brotherhood in the society. He launched a co -operative campaign in Dalit settlements and gave a message to end caste discrimination. With his initiative, people started sitting together and eaten and the example of brotherhood was established in the society.

Unique contribution in religion and politics
Mahant Avidyanath was not only Dharmacharya, but also an active politician. He represented Maniram Assembly five times and Gorakhpur Lok Sabha four times. In addition, he was also the Vice President and General Secretary of the All India Hindu Mahasabha. Through politics, he played an important role in social reform and public welfare.
Mahant Avidyanath’s life journey and initiation
Mahant Avedyanath was born on 18 May 1919 in village Kandi in Garhwal district. He had a deep inclination in religion and spirituality since childhood. He was initiated at Gorakshpeeth in 1942 and in 1969 he became the Mahant and Peethadhishwar of the Gorakhnath Temple. His life ended on Ashwin Krishna Chaturthi in 2014.
Used to give message of social reform and unity
Mahant Awidyanath always gave the message of social harmony to the people from the examples of Shri Ram and Goddess Durga. They used to say that when all the four varnas of the society are united, they will become strong in strength and harmony. His life was a symbol of maintaining unity in society and maintaining the values of religion.
