Its purpose is to update the salary of employees according to inflation and economic conditions. The 7th Pay Commission was implemented in 2016 and now the 8th Pay Commission is going to replace it.

How much can salary increase?

According to sources, the fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission can be increased from 2.57 to 2.86. This means that the existing basic salary of employees will be multiplied by 2.86.

  • Level 1 employee’s salary can increase from Rs 18,000 to about Rs 51,480.
  • Level 2 employees can get up to Rs 56,914 instead of Rs 19,900.
  • The salary on Level 3 can increase from Rs 21,700 to Rs 62,062.
  • Officials of Level 6, who now get Rs 35,400, can now get more than Rs 1 lakh salary.
  • Officers like IAS and IPS, who come to Level 10, can benefit up to Rs 1.6 lakh instead of Rs 56,100.

What happened yet?

The government has not yet announced the chairman and members of the commission, but it is believed that its blueprint will be prepared by the end of this year. Once the Terms of Reference is final, the work on the recommendations will start rapidly.
