The epic drama ‘The Odyssey’, starring Matt Damon, has kicked off with a dream box office run, delivering an impressive opening-day collection and taking the domestic collection to nearly 20 crore. The first on its day 1 (First Friday) made business of a whopping 17.40 crore net across 8413 shows. In contrast, the gross collection has crossed the 20 crore mark, standing at 20.76 crore.
With an impressive 77 percent occupancy across 4401 shows, the action film collected 13.75 crore net in English, while it earned 1.90 crore net with just 13 percent occupancy across 2851 shows. In the Tamil belt, the film earned 0.65 crore net with 28 percent occupancy in 486 shows and collected 1.10 crore net with 30 percent occupancy in 675 shows.
The Hollywood film has turned out to be one of the biggest releases in recent times, and the reviews from audiences and critics are generating strong word of mouth, while viral short clips are building anticipation. The multi-starrer film is made on a grand scale based on the mythology of the Greek King Odysseus.
