Latehar Bike Crash: Two major road accidents created a stir in Latehar district of Jharkhand on Saturday night. First, two motorcycles collided head-on near Barwatoli village in Herhanj area. In this massive collision, three people died on the spot and four were seriously injured. Police officials said that no one was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. This was the reason that the injuries were so serious that it was not possible to save the lives of three people.
Who were the dead and injured?
The deceased include two brothers from Tasu village of Herhanj area – Mannu Bhuiyan (20) and Gulab Bhuiyan (22). The third deceased was identified as Mohan Ganju (22). Police said that all these people were returning home after participating in the Sarhul procession, when this tragic accident happened. Of the seven injured people, four are in critical condition. He is being treated at Balumath Community Health Centre. Two of these have been referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for better treatment. The injured have been identified as Vikas Bhuiyan, Ranjit Bhuiyan, Kamlesh Ganju and Shanti Devi.

Second road accident: Auto-rickshaw driver dies
Not only this, another accident took place in Chandwa police station area of Latehar district. An auto-rickshaw driver died and three people were injured after they collided with a pick-up van. The injured are also being treated in a hospital. Police officials said investigation into both the incidents is ongoing and both the damaged vehicles have been seized. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Latehar Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.

Is road safety being paid attention to?
It became clear from the accidents that not wearing a helmet and disobeying road rules often proves fatal. The police immediately took all the injured to the hospital, but the injuries were so serious that the lives of three could not be saved. Herhanj police station in-charge Krishna Pal Singh said, “As soon as we received information about the accident, we reached the spot and took action. It is important to follow road safety rules.” These incidents in Latehar have again highlighted the importance of road safety and wearing helmets among the people. According to the police, serious accidents occur due to not wearing helmet and disobeying the rules.
