Rumours about Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2 have been circulating on social media. It was widely reported that Karan Johar is planning to make the sequel to his 2001 film, K3G. It starred Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Jaya Bachchan, Kajol, Rani Mukerji, and Kareena Kapoor.

Media reports suggested that Karan’s film was supposed to have two male and two female actors. However, there’s no truth to it. In an interview, Karan dismissed speculation about making Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2.

Karan Johar: There is no K3G 2

In an interview with Hindustan Times,   quashed the rumours about Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2 being made. He even said that there is no derivative of Takht being made..

“I’d never make a K3G2. I’m not saying K3G was the best film ever made, not at all. Every film has its flaws, but what K3G has in abundance is nostalgia. Generations have grown up watching that film – for what they’ve loved, what they haven’t, what they’ve cried about and laughed with,” he said.

The Bollywood filmmaker added that people loved the movie and he is grateful to universe that he got a chance to create a film that still lives on. Karan also mentioned that he would ‘never mess’ with the nostalgia or the love that Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham enjoys. “Because you’re setting yourself up for disaster when you make a film like K3G2. So yes, the absolute truth is there is no K3G2,” added Karan.

When rumours of K3G surfaced online

For the unversed, rumours of K3G 2 spread like wildfire on internet after it was reported that Karan is making a high-octane family drama. “The film will be spearheaded by two male leads and two female leads, and the casting process is expected to kickstart soon. This will be the big ticket marque from Dharma Productions scheduled for the theatrical medium,” a source told Pinkvilla. It was also said that the film is definitely in the space of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

Karan Johar’s work front

On the work front, Karan’s last directorial venture was Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The film maked Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s big screen reunion after Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy. The romantic drama also featured late Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Anjali Anand, and others. The movie worked well at the box office. As of today, the filmmaker hasn’t announced his new directorial project.
