Uday Pratap College Student Murder: There was chaos in Varanasi’s famous Uday Pratap College (UP College) on Friday morning when Surya Pratap Singh, a BSc fourth semester student, was shot in broad daylight. This sensational incident that took place in the college campus shocked the students, teachers and administration.
It is being told that the accused student Manjeet Chauhan suddenly took out a pistol and fired indiscriminately at Surya Pratap. As soon as he was shot, he fell on the ground. His colleagues immediately took him to the hospital, but he died during treatment. After the incident, angry students protested fiercely in the college campus and closed the college gate.

Bullets were fired after an altercation
According to preliminary information, there was an altercation between Surya Pratap Singh and accused student Manjeet Chauhan over some issue on Friday morning around 10:30 am. It is being told that as the matter escalated, both the students were called by the college administration for talks. Meanwhile, the accused suddenly took out a pistol and started firing at Surya Pratap. According to eyewitnesses, the accused fired bullets directly aiming at the head, chest and stomach.

multiple bullets hit the body
Initial investigation by the police has revealed that a total of eight bullets were hit in the student’s body. Four of these bullets were in the chest, while the rest were in the head and stomach. After the firing, accused Manjeet Chauhan threw the pistol there and ran away from the spot. Police have recovered a pistol and five cartridges from the spot. The forensic team also reached the spot and collected evidence.
Allegation of firing in front of the principal
The students allege that the entire incident took place near the administrative building of the college, in front of the principal. It is being told that when the bullet was fired, the principal ran away from there and did not even reach the injured student. However, an official statement has not yet come out from the college administration in this matter.
The accused ran away by jumping from the roof
After the incident, the accused student escaped by jumping from the one-storey roof of the Arts and Social Sciences building. Fellow students first took the injured Surya Pratap to the district hospital, from where the doctors, seeing his critical condition, referred him to BHU Trauma Center. But during treatment there, doctors declared him dead.

When his mother Kiran Singh got the news of Surya Pratap’s death in the trauma center, everyone present there became emotional.
Mother was crying again and again and saying, “For whom will I live now?”
Her condition became so bad that she fainted several times. The students and people present there tried to control him.

Surya Pratap was the only son.
Surya Pratap Singh was a resident of Dubaitha village of Saidpur police station area of Ghazipur district. He was the only son of his parents.
- Father Rishidev Singh drives a school manager’s car and was out of town at the time of the incident.
- Mother Kiran Singh also works in a school.
- He also has two sisters in the family.
At home he was fondly called Pawan.
Demonstration of students in college
After the incident, angry students vandalized the college and closed the main gate.
Students demand that:
- The accused student should be arrested immediately
- college principal resign
A large number of police forces were deployed to control the situation.
Police officers reached the spot
As soon as information about the incident was received, Police Commissioner Mohit Aggarwal and many senior officers reached the spot. Police force from about 10 police stations has been deployed in the college campus. According to the police, three teams are raiding different places to arrest the accused student.
Questions raised on campus security
This incident, which took place in broad daylight in the college campus, has raised serious questions on campus security. Students say that if the security system in the college had been strong, perhaps such a major incident could have been avoided. At present the police is investigating the matter and the search for the accused is going on.
