India sends medical aid to Afghanistan after Pakistani airstrike kills 400 people in Kabul rehab center

New Delhi: The intensity of the armed conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan is increasing with each passing day. On March 16, a deadly airstrike of Pakistani air force on a drug rehabilitation center in Kabul killed more than 400 people.

India helps Afghanistan

To help Afghanistan following the devastating airstrike, India on Friday delivered a 2.5-ton consignment of medical supplies and equipment to Kabul. Notably, India and Afghanistan have shared a warm bilateral tie in recent times. The shipment includes medical disposables, emergency medicines, kits and equipment to support treatment and recovery who have been injured in the attack.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) released a statement that read, “India stands in solidarity with the Afghan people and will continue to extend all possible humanitarian support in this difficult hour.” The airstrike reportedly destroyed most of the 2,000-bed complex of the large drug rehabilitation hospital in Kabul.

Devastating attack on rehabilitation center

It reportedly killed at least 400 people and injured nearly 250 people. One could see plumes of smoke from nearby Shahr-e-Naw and Wazir Akbar Khan districts. The conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan has increased in recent times. Pakistan has executed several airstrikes in Afghanistan after the Taliban government-backed militants allegedly carried out attacks in the former country.

Notably, both Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to a temporary truce ahead of Eid al-Fitr this week. The two countries have been engaged in fighting near the border for weeks now. Pakistan’s Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar announced the decision to pause the fighting between the two sides. He said that the pause is set to run from midnight of Thursday, to midnight of Tuesday.
