If you order food from food delivery platform Zomato, you are going to get a big shock. The company has decided to increase the platform fees, this decision of the company will now increase the burden on your pockets. According to the details available on Zomato, the platform fee charged from users has now been increased by Rs 2.40. This increase will be applicable on every order of yours, which means whether you order food once or 10 times a day, you will have to pay more every time.
Before GST was imposed, Rs 12.50 was charged for every order, but now this charge has been increased to Rs 14.90. Recall that earlier this increase was made in September 2025. After adding taxes, Zomato’s competitor Swiggy is currently charging a platform fee of Rs 14.99 on every order. Both the companies follow the same pricing trend.
Rapido has entered the food delivery business
This new increase comes at a time when competition in the food delivery space is seeing new developments. Urban mobility startup Rapido recently launched its food delivery service, Only, in Bengaluru. The company has made it clear that apart from the delivery fee, no extra fee will be charged from the customers or restaurants. This move by Rapido may put some pressure on existing companies, especially as customers have raised concerns about the multiple charges being added to food delivery orders.
Impact on users
The increase in platform fees has come amid rising prices of crude oil. Higher fuel prices may impact delivery operations, impacting both the restaurants and delivery partners associated with the platform. Even though competition is increasing in the food delivery sector, for users, this change means paying more money per order.
