Tamil Nadu weather report: Heavy rain alert for three districts, light showers likely in Chennai

Chennai: The Chennai Meteorological Centre has announced that due to a prevailing atmospheric circulation in the lower layers over Tamil Nadu, there is a possibility of rainfall in various districts until March 24. Specifically, a warning has been issued indicating that heavy rainfall is likely to occur in the districts of Perambalur, Ariyalur, and Tiruchirappalli.

Rainfall and temperature forecast

The Meteorological Centre has predicted that dry weather is likely to prevail in interior Tamil Nadu today, while light rainfall may occur in Chennai. There is also a possibility of moderate rainfall in the coastal districts today. The Centre has indicated that there is a low probability of any significant change in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions today.

For Chennai and its suburban areas today, March 20, 2026, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy. Light rainfall may occur in a few parts of the city. The maximum temperature is likely to range between 34°C and 35°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to be between 24°C and 25°C.
