BTS are finally back with their highly anticipated album ARIRANG, and the group is opening up about their creative process behind the lead track SWIM . Marking their first comeback in over three years, the album represents a new era for the Bangtan Boys.
Ahead of the release, the members shared their honest thoughts about the title track in a chat, revealing that SWIM was not an instant choice but a song that grew on them over time.
SWIM was not the obvious choice but…
Leader RM told Naver that the group spent the longest time deliberating over SWIM as the title track. According to him, they even tried for an entire month to create a song that could surpass it, but nothing quite matched its appeal. RM described the track as having a “clean and smooth charm,” comparing it to Pyongyang cold noodles. He added that the more he listened to it, the more he felt drawn to its flow, almost like wanting to “swim along with it.”

Jin echoed similar sentiments, explaining that SWIM is not a song that grabs attention instantly. Instead, it has a lingering quality that stays with listeners over time. He made sure to talk about a specific rhythmic section in the middle of the track that he found particularly memorable, admitting that he often loses track of time while listening to it.
For J-Hope, the focus was on performance. He shared that the group worked hard to ensure the song remains clear and engaging even during live stages. The choreography includes wave-like movements and moments that mimic diving, enhancing the song’s theme. Initially, he worried the track might feel underwhelming compared to more high-impact songs, but over time, he found comfort in its subtlety and alignment with the album’s message.
Why did V not like SWIM earlier?
V offered a particularly honest perspective, admitting that SWIM did not feel “stimulating” at first, especially when compared to louder, more energetic tracks. However, as he listened to it repeatedly, his opinion changed. He came to see it as a song that listeners could cherish for a long time, appreciating its understated beauty and emotional resonance.
Jungkook described the track as a perfect fit for the group’s current identity. He noted that the lyrics capture where BTS stands today, while the performance introduces fresh elements that set it apart from their previous work.
As a group, BTS described SWIM as a song that mirrors life itself. They expressed hope that it would comfort listeners as they navigate their daily struggles, much like the traditional essence of Arirang. With its growing impact and heartfelt message, SWIM aims to stay with fans for years to come.
BTS Comeback Album ARIRANG is all set to release at 9:30 am today, along with lead single SWIM music video.
