Why will Eid be celebrated on March 20 in Gulf countries?
In fact, this year the Shawwal moon was not visible in most of the Gulf countries on the evening of March 18. For this reason, a decision was taken to complete the 30 fasts of Ramzan. According to the Islamic calendar, when the moon is not sighted after the 29th fast, the month is considered to be 30 days long. This is the reason why it has now been announced to celebrate Eid on 20th March.
In which countries the date of Eid has been decided?
The Gulf countries have been the first to clarify the situation. Eid will be celebrated on Friday in all these places like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain. Apart from this, celebrations will also take place on this day in countries like Türkiye, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine. Africa’s Egypt, Nigeria, Somalia and Sudan have also confirmed Eid on March 20. Australia and Maldives have also moved ahead with this date.
Why is there suspense regarding the date of Eid in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh?
In South Asian countries, the decision of Eid is based on sighting of the local moon. The sighting of the moon has not been confirmed in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh on the evening of March 19, so here people will keep an eye on the sky on the evening of March 20. If the moon is visible on 20th March then Eid will be on 21st March. Whereas if the moon is visible on March 18, then Eid will be celebrated on March 20 only, that is why there is a difference of one day here every year. Even in India, Eid is celebrated on different days in many states. The reason for this is the tradition of seeing the moon. In maritime areas like Kerala, the moon is visible early due to clear sky, whereas in North India, the moon is visible late due to weather and clouds. Therefore, the difference of one day in different states is considered completely correct as per religious tradition.
Why was Eid celebrated earlier in some countries?
The interesting thing this time was that the moon was visible early in some countries. In countries like Afghanistan, Niger and Mali, Eid was celebrated on 19 March itself. This difference occurs due to geographical location and weather.
