Global temperature has been increasing for the last few years. The effect of this climate change is no longer limited to just the weather, but it is also directly affecting the health of the people. A study regarding this has recently been published in the journal The Lancet Global Health. It has been told that due to increasing heat, people will reduce physical activity. Due to this, there is a possibility of about 7 lakh more deaths every year by the year 2050.
It has been said in the study that due to increasing heat year after year, people go out of their homes. exercise Are not doing. Due to extreme heat and humidity the ability to exercise is also decreasing. In many places the situation may be such that people may not even do exercise like walking due to the heat. The study says that by the year 2030, people’s physical activity may reduce by 15 percent due to heat.
People are exercising less than the prescribed standard
The report states that still one in three people in the world is not meeting the exercise standards set by WHO. According to WHO, people aged 18-64 should do at least 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of exercise every week, but people are not doing even that much. It has been said in the study that people are already doing less physical activity, due to increasing heat it will reduce further, due to which people’s health will deteriorate.
How will heat cause additional deaths?
Understand it this way, people will reduce exercise due to heat. Less exercise will increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes, these diseases are a major cause of deaths. Apart from this, there will be a risk of death due to heat stroke and dehydration due to excessive heat, while less exercise will also cause many types of metabolic diseases. Which can later lead to additional deaths.
Excess deaths i.e. suppose 20 lakh people die in a year without any reason (like heat, disease or pollution), but if in the same year the heat increases so much that people are unable to exercise, the cases of heat stroke increase and due to this the number of these 20 lakh deaths increases to 22, then there will be 2 lakh additional deaths. These deaths do not occur under normal circumstances, but will occur due to lack of physical activity due to increasing heat and diseases caused by them.
What will be the impact on India?
The study estimates that by 2050, the death rate related to physical inactivity in India may reach 10.62 per 1 lakh population. Experts suggest that it is necessary to bring heat-safe exercise guidelines so that people can exercise even when the heat increases. Along with this, it is also important to think about climate change and make efforts to control global warming.
