Uttarkashi: The high-altitude regions of Uttarakhand, including the famous Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines, have been receiving heavy snowfall for the past few days. Revered Char Dham shrines Badrinath and Kedarnath also received snowfall today.
Harsil Valley and nearby villages are now covered in a blanket of snow, creating a stunning view while also increasing the chill in the air.
Snowfall in Shrines and Villages
Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines received nearly seven to eight inches of snow. Harsil and nearby villages like Geeth and Mori recorded three to four inches. The lower regions of Uttarkashi experienced rain, which kept the sky cloudy throughout the day and caused temperatures to drop sharply.
Farmers Find Relief
For farmers, this snowfall has come as a blessing. Crops were drying up due to the lack of rain in recent weeks. Now, the rain and snow have revived hopes. Apple growers in particular are happy, as snowfall in March is considered beneficial for apple production.
Farmer Pawan Bisht said, “The snowfall has brought smiles to our faces. Apples will benefit the most, and other crops will also get relief.”
Pilgrims and Priests
Rajesh Semwal, a pilgrim priest at Gangotri Dham, said that since last Sunday, the shrine has been experiencing heavy snowfall. “The snowfall has caused a big drop in temperatures, but devotees are still arriving to offer prayers,” he added. The snow has also enhanced the beauty of the shrines, attracting pilgrims and visitors despite the cold conditions.
Weather Alert
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for rain and snowfall in several areas of Uttarakhand. Snowfall is expected in regions above 3,000 meters, while rain and thundershowers are likely in Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, and Champawat districts. Officials have advised people to remain cautious, especially in hilly areas where sudden weather changes can cause difficulties.
