Hindu Nava Varsh 2026: Today is the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. Hindu New Year has started from today. This is Vikram Samvat 2083, which will last till 07 April 2027. Today the festival of Gudi Padwa is being celebrated in Maharashtra. People are celebrating the festival of Ugadi in the states of South India. It is a mythological belief that Lord Brahma started the creation from the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month.
Navratri dedicated to Goddess Durga has also started from today itself. Worship is done on New Year’s day. It is believed that by worshiping on New Year, God’s blessings remain throughout the year. Along with worship, some other auspicious works are also said to be done on the first day of Hindu New Year. According to religious beliefs, doing these things on the first day of the New Year leads to happiness throughout the year.
Do this work on Hindu New Year
- On New Year’s Day, make a Swastika symbol with turmeric and roli at the main entrance of the house and light a lamp. With this, Goddess Lakshmi arrives in the house and prosperity remains.
- On New Year, prepare a beautiful arch of mango leaves or flowers and then install it at the main entrance.
- Sprinkle Ganga water in the house on the first day of the New Year and burn camphor in the evening. This removes negativity from the house.
- Consume neem and jaggery on the first day of the new year. This benefits health.
- Before the New Year, create an atmosphere of happiness in the house by performing puja etc. Spend time with family.
- On the first day of the New Year, definitely recite Aranya Kand of Shri Ramcharitmanas.
- Chant Gayatri Mantra or Mahamrityunjaya Mantra on the first day of the new year.
- Start some new work on the first day of the new year and take a big resolution.
- Donate fruits and clothes to needy people. Also provide food to the poor and needy.
- On New Year, burn camphor, cloves, green cardamom, cinnamon and yellow mustard in a vessel and then rotate it throughout the house.
