Every new season of IPL brings new expectations for the fans. Fans of every team hope that this time their team becomes champion or their favorite batsman or bowler becomes the most successful. Fans may have different preferences regarding a team or player, but most of the fans seem united in one matter and that is – sixes. The thrill of IPL is that there are a lot of fours and sixes in it and records are broken in almost every season. In such a situation, this record will be expected to be broken once again. But how many sixes will have to be hit this time?
IPL Before the start, the curiosity to know the old records, statistics and fun facts increases. There is similar excitement about how many sixes were hit in the last season and whether that record will be broken this time or not. If we look at the pattern of the last 5 consecutive seasons, the record of sixes hit every year has been broken and this figure has crossed 1000 and has reached almost 1300.
Most sixes hit in the last season
If we start from 2021, a total of 687 sixes were hit in the first IPL season of this decade, which was less than the previous season. But in the very next season it increased tremendously. A total of 1062 sixes were hit by all the batsmen in IPL 2022. One reason for this was the entry of two new teams and the increase in matches due to that. Then in 2023 it increased to 1124. The most tremendous jump was seen in IPL 2024, when a total of 1260 sixes were hit.
Now if we talk about the last season, the outcry of the batsmen reached a new level and 1294 sixes were hit. Now, if we consider this trend and the change in the level of batting in the last two seasons as evidence, then this figure is sure to increase this season and for the first time more than 1300 sixes can be hit in IPL.
But this record has been maintained for 13 years
Although the number of sixes hit may be increasing, there is one record which has stood for the last 13 seasons and has not been broken yet. This is the record of hitting most sixes in a season. This feat was done by veteran batsman Chris Gayle in IPL 2012, when he hit 59 sixes in just 15 matches while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Talking about Indian batsmen, this record is in the name of Abhishek Sharma, who hit 42 sixes in 16 matches in IPL 2024. He is the only Indian to hit 40 or more sixers.
