Driving License Renewal India: As important as it is to get a driving license, it is equally important to renew it on time. But now the process of renewing the license is going to be more strict and safe than before. The Transport Department has decided to implement Artificial Intelligence (AI) based face verification system in the driving license renewal process.
After the implementation of the new system, when a person applies to renew his license on completion of 15 years of validity, it will be mandatory for him to get his face digitally verified. The purpose of this system is to prevent fraud and make the entire process transparent.
AI will identify old and new faces
Under the new technology, AI software will match the photo on the old driving license and the face of the person currently applying.
This will make it clear whether the same person who got the license 15 years ago has now come to renew it or not.
It is often seen that someone else also tries to renew the old license. But now after the implementation of AI based face verification system, such cases are expected to be stopped to a great extent.

Pilot project will start from Bhopal RTO
Transport Commissioner Umesh Joga has given instructions to start this software prepared in collaboration with National Informatics Center (NIC) as a pilot project.
It will be started first from Bhopal Regional Transport Office (RTO). If this experiment is successful then it can be implemented in the entire state in the coming time.
More than 70 lakh driving licenses in Madhya Pradesh
At present there are around 70 lakh driving licenses in Madhya Pradesh. About 6 lakh new licenses are also created every year.
In such a situation, a large number of license renewal cases will come up in the coming years. The old license photo and the current face may vary significantly, making it difficult to identify the correct person.
In view of this challenge, the Transport Department has decided to implement AI based face verification technology.
Efforts to stop cyber fraud also
Cyber fraud cases have increased rapidly in the last few years. Many times, attempts to misuse government services through fake documents also come to light.
After the implementation of the new technology, the process of driving license renewal is expected to become more secure, faster and reliable. Besides, this will also increase administrative transparency.
How to apply for Driving License Renewal online
Now the online process for renewing driving license has been made much easier.
The step-by-step process is like this:
- First of all go to the official website of Transport Department.
- Here select Driving License Related Services option.
- Select Madhya Pradesh state from the drop-down menu.
- Now click on Apply for DL Renewal.
- Enter your driving license number and date of birth.
- Upload required documents: Form-9 (Application Form), Form-1A (Medical Certificate for above 40 years of age), Old Driving License
- After this deposit the fees online.
- Book an appointment for document verification at RTO.
After getting the appointment, you will have to go to the RTO on the scheduled date to complete the process.
Identification process will become more strict in future
Experts believe that the use of AI technology in government services will prevent identity related errors to a great extent.
Implementation of face verification in driving license renewal will not only reduce fraud, but will also make the process more reliable and safe for the common people.
