New Delhi: The Tata Sierra has scored a 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests by scoring 31.14 points of 32 in the adult occupant protection test and 44.73 points from 49 in the child occupant protection test. The tall SUV recently made news for having good structural integrity during a recent incident of a crash from a high height.
Previously, Tata had shown the lifestyle-oriented compact SUV structurally stay intact, with the cabin intact and seat-belt removable after two Sierras crashed against each other. The ratings are for all trims of the Sierra.

In adult occupant protection testing, Sierra did well
In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Sierra provided ‘good’ protection to the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs and feet. The chest and tibiae, though, received adequate protection. All the critical elements of the co-driver, except the right tibia, received ‘good’ protection.
In both the side moveable deformable barrier test and side pole impact tests, the critical parts of the driver and co-driver, like the head, abdomen, pelvis and chest, received ‘good’ protection.

The 18-month old and 3-year-old dummies were facing backwards in the child occupant protection test. The 18-month-old dummy scored 7.73 out of 8 points in the frontal crash test, while the 3-year-old dummy scored a full 8 out of 8. Both dummies took all four points in the side crash tests.
The Sierra got 23.73 out of 24 points for the dynamic score and all 12 points in the CRS score. It lost 4 points in the vehicle assessment score, bringing the overall child occupant score to 44.73 from 49 points.

The Sierra comes with a standard safety kit, which includes 6 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, rear parking sensors, traction control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and ABS with EBD. Top-of-the-line trims also come with level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, an auto-dimming IRVM and a blind spot monitor. Sierra is priced between Rs 11.49 lakh and 21.29 lakh and competes in a heavy section which includes Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Maruti Victoris, Skoda Kushaq and the lot.
